Wow, the semester is over already. Now is the time to look back at how I spent my semester in terms of PE, and whether I accomplished my goals and actions.
Goals: 1) Be able to hold a casual conversation: My goal was to be able to have natural and interesting conversations with Japanese speakers by the end of the semester. I believe I got more comfortable at this over the course of the semester. I noticed I could hold a conversation with native Japanese speakers who showed up to one of the Japanese language tables. I can also chat via Japanese texts with some of my friends who took Japanese in the past. 2) Understand simple dialogues in anime and movies without subtitles: I wanted to have as minimal need for subtitles as possible, and I believe I made good progress with this. I started watching some series that have simple grammatical structures, (Chi's Sweet Home), and noticed that I could understand what was being talked about 50% of the time, because of their simplicity. Actions: 1) Watch anime and pay attention to speech: I was excited about this, but I did not really follow this action because of how busy I was. I would like to do this action through the summer, in order to keep Japanese fresh in my head. 2) Go to Japanese language tables at least once every two weeks: I tried to make it to language tables as much as I could. I believe I went to around 4 this semester, one of them being the advanced table. I still wish I went to more tables though. 3) Go to office hours: I went to an office hour to practice for the Oral Exam, and it was very helpful. However, I did not go to office hours after practicing for the Midterm. I should really make use of this resource more in the upcoming year.
